Kidswear Collection for Custom Development
The kidswear references above cover dresses, shorts, joggers, hoodies, sweatshirts and outerwear developed for children’s collections. They are starting points for a development conversation rather than a stock list. Requested changes to fabric, colour, trims and size range are reviewed for the actual project. Use the references to define what your range needs before you send an enquiry.
Building a Coherent Kidswear Range
A range holds together when the pieces relate to one another. Separate the core styles that carry the collection through the year, such as a crew neck sweatshirt, a jogger or a basic tee, from seasonal styles such as a cotton sundress in summer or a quilted vest in winter. Group styles by fabric family and by size span so cutting, sewing and finishing stay manageable. A sundress in cotton voile and a t-shirt dress in cotton jersey behave differently in production even though both are dresses, and keeping similar weights and constructions together simplifies sourcing and quality control. Dress styles carry their own construction and consumption questions, which we cover separately on our girls dress development page.
From Silhouette to a Production Brief
A liked reference becomes a specification once the details are written down. A usable brief carries a tech pack or clear reference images, measurement points with tolerances, fabric composition, weight and finish, and trim decisions covering buttons, zips, drawcords, labels and packing. Add the target market and its safety expectations, and state whether artwork is printed, embroidered or applied. Confirm colour standards against a physical swatch rather than a screen, and record open decisions so sampling does not inherit assumptions.
Size Grading and Sample Approval
Approving a sample in the base size confirms the design, not the whole size range. Grading shifts proportions across ages, so check the smallest and largest sizes on their own: sleeve and leg length, neck opening, waistband stretch and ease through the body. Children need room to run, climb and grow, so review activity allowance together with the graded measurements before signing off.
Planning Quantities Across Styles and Colours
Break the order down by style, colour and size instead of quoting one total. A hoodie in three colourways across six sizes is eighteen combinations, and each needs a clear quantity allocation; material minimums may apply by fabric or colour rather than by every size. Presenting quantities in this structure makes quotations comparable and shows where a single colour or size is holding disproportionate cost. Minimums and delivery windows depend on fabric availability and construction, so confirm them for the actual project rather than applying a generic figure.
Kidswear Development FAQs
Can reference styles be adapted?
The styles shown are development references, not a fixed catalogue. Requested changes to fabric, colour, trims and size range are reviewed for the actual project. Send the reference together with the points you want altered and the points that must stay the same, so the discussion starts from your requirements.
What should a development brief include?
Reference images or a tech pack, target age and size range, fabric composition and weight, colour standards, trims and decoration method, quantities by style, colour and size, target market, and any testing or labelling requirements. Mark unresolved items clearly instead of leaving them blank.
Does one approved sample cover every size?
No. A base size sample confirms design, fabric and construction. Graded sizes need their own measurement check, particularly the smallest and largest in the range, because proportions and ease change as the size run moves.
Send your references, sizes, colours and quantities through the enquiry form below. Wider cooperation questions are covered in our manufacturing FAQs.
