Choose the Dress Construction Before Comparing Quotes

Dress quotations are hard to compare unless the construction is described first. A woven cotton dress with a lined bodice and a gathered skirt is built differently from a knitted jersey dress with no lining and a soft, unstabilised hem. Woven structures hold a shaped silhouette and can carry fullness, pleats and a clean zip opening, while knitted structures depend on stretch, recovery and fabric weight for the way they hang. Skirt volume matters as much as the body: a tiered or circular skirt consumes considerably more material than a straight one. Lining is a separate decision with its own fabric, seams and cost. Ask for bodice, skirt, lining and closure to be itemised in the quotation instead of bundled into a single price.

Fabric Consumption Can Change the Unit Cost

Fabric consumption is one component of unit cost and should be reviewed alongside sewing, finishing and trims. Usable fabric width determines how many pattern pieces fit across the cloth, and the size allocation in the marker determines how efficiently those pieces nest. Pattern matching for stripes, checks or a placed print adds waste because pieces must be cut in register. Lining introduces a second material with its own consumption and shrinkage behaviour. Finishing choices such as a rolled hem, a facing or a bias-bound edge change both material use and labour. Two quotes are only comparable when the consumption assumptions behind them are visible.

Fit and Finishing Across the Size Range

Review neck opening, armhole, ease, dress length and trim placement across the agreed size range, including the smallest and largest sizes. Age grading and market requirements differ between regions and have to be confirmed with you. We do not present certifications or test results as a general guarantee.

Prepare a Private Label Dress Brief

A complete brief shortens the development cycle. Include reference images or an existing sample, the size chart with measurement points and tolerances, fabric composition and weight, colour standards, the lining specification, trims and decoration method, the quantity breakdown by style, colour and size, branding and labelling requirements, and the target market with any testing or labelling rules that apply to it. Mark the items that are still undecided so the proposal separates confirmed requirements from assumptions.

Girls Dress Development FAQs

Can we adapt the reference dresses?

The dress images shown are references from our existing collection and a coordinated-collection case study. Silhouette, length, sleeve, fabric, colour, lining and trims can all be discussed for your collection. Requested changes are reviewed for the actual project, and feasibility depends on the construction, materials and quantities you specify.

How should lining and decoration be quoted?

Ask for lining to appear as a separate line with its own material, colour and consumption, and for decoration to be itemised by method, size and placement. Printed, embroidered and applied trims carry different setup and unit costs, and a bundled price hides which decisions are driving the total.

What determines order quantities and timing?

Quantities follow the fabric, colour and size breakdown, because each combination has its own material requirement. Timing follows the development rounds, material availability, approvals and the production schedule. Both are confirmed for the actual project rather than quoted as a general figure.

If you are still shortlisting suppliers, our comparison of girls dress manufacturers in China sets out the questions buyers use to evaluate options. General cooperation questions are covered in our manufacturing FAQs. Send your dress references, size chart and quantity plan through the enquiry form below.
